Mary Ann (Day) Varga

Mary Ann Varga, 86, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, transitioned from this life to her heavenly home on Saturday, August 1, 2020. Born in Charleroi on September 24th, 1933 to Charles “Happy” Day and Sarah Eland Day, she had been a resident of Hallsworth House in Monessen the past nine years. She is survived by two sons, Joel (Gladys) Varga of Cheswick, PA and Stan Varga of Goldsboro, NC. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Aaron (Amanda), Charisse, Ryan, and Rachel (Nic), two great grandchildren, Elijah and Emilia, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Varga and a daughter, Judith Varga Bass. Mary Ann had a magnetic personality that always drew people to her. She found it very easy to have a conversation with anybody which endeared her to many, even those who only knew her for a short time. She was also known throughout the family as the go-to person for providing cookies and baked goods for family events such as weddings and graduations. She always took pride in this activity and considered it her way of using her gifts to bless others. Reading and music were a big part of her life as well. She enjoyed countless hours of listening to music while reading, doing word search puzzles and playing hand-held games. Our family would like to publicly express our sincere appreciation to the Hallsworth House staff for their many years of excellent care and dedication in providing for Mary Ann. A very special thank you goes to Viaquest Hospice and Joan Holets, in particular, who gave selflessly during her final days here on earth. Friends and relatives will be received on Wednesday from 2 pm until 4 pm and 6 pm until 8 pm. in the Robert A Billick Funeral Home Inc. Services will begin on Thursday with a blessing service starting at 9:30 am in the funeral home and a funeral mass will begin at 10 am in the Epiphany of our lord Roman Catholic Church interment will follow in Holy Name Cemetery in Monessen. Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic the funeral home must limit quests to 25 at a time, require face coverings and maintain social distancing.
