: John G. Onda, 85 of Monessen on Saturday October 15, 2011 in Mon Valley Hospital Inc. Born in Monessen on October 24 1925 he was the son of the late John and Barbara Mesko Onda. He was a graduate of Monessen High School and Pittsburgh Technical Institute's twelve month accelerated Industrial Engineering Course. John also attended Bryant College in Providence Rhode Island and Westmoreland County Community College. John was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church of Belle Vernon. He was a former member of Holy Name Church of Monessen where he served for many years as Usher, Teller and Church Council Member. John also served many years as Chairperson or vice Chairperson on picnic affairs, ticket projects and Catholic Services Appeals. He retired after 32 years from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Co. Industrial Engineering Department in 1982. John also worked as an Auditor for three years in B.F. Goodrich's main office in Cleveland Ohio. He also was a Personal Income Tax Practitioner for over 39 years retiring in 2003. John was a United States Army veteran of World War II from 1943 to 1946. He served with the 603rd Engineers, Camouflage Battalion, Special Troops, 3rd Army. While stationed states side, he attended U.S. Armed Forces Institute in Madison Wisconsin. In addition to other awards, he was awarded three bronze stars for participation in Central Europe, Ardennes and Rhineland Campaigns. He was a member of Thomas McKee Post 28 of the American Legion (Monessen) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 167 (Charleroi). John was also a long time Fraternal Order of Eagles member with the Monessen Aerie 2399. In the early 1950's he served the Aerie as their Treasurer. In addition to his parents he was proceeded in death by two sisters Barbara Onda Parks in 1996 and Anna Onda Miller in 1998. He is survived by his son John Kevin Onda of Belle Vernon. Three sisters Mrs. Julia Krivacek of Monessen, Mrs. Margaret Marek of Belle Vernon, and Mrs. Mary Vivian of Carlisle, and two brothers and sisters in law Andrew and Rose and Michael and Patricia Onda of Belle Vernon, numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 6 until 8 pm and Wednesday from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 pm in the Robert A. Billick Funeral Home Inc. Grand Blvd. and Marion Ave. Monessen (724) 684-3700 www.billicksfuneralhome.com . A blessing service will be held on Thursday at 9:15 am in the funeral home followed by a 10 am Funeral Mass in St. Sebastian,s Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Roger Statnik officiating interment will follow in Holy Name Cemetery Monessen.
