Joanne Cocciolone

August 28, 1959 — June 16, 2020

Joanne Cocciolone passed from this world on June 16 , 2020, at her home in Monessen, Pa. The beloved daughter of Raymond and Rose (Vitalbo) Cocciolone, Joanne was born in Monessen and was a graduate of Monongahela Valley Catholic High School class of 1977. She graduated from Duquesne University, where she was a member of Gamma Sigma Sigma Sorority. She was a parishioner at Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church. Most recently, Joanne worked for MBDS Military Deli and Bakery Services at the Government Commissary in Moon Township, where she showed the same pride and in her work there as she did her entire life. For many years, Joanne was owner and operator of Libby’s Dairy Bar in Monessen, where she forged lasting friendships and mentored many young people. Joanne always had an open door, a keen wisdom, and an incredible sense of humor that could draw out the very best in those around her. Joanne had a humble spirit and did things for others that we will never know. Joanne embodied the phrase, ‘She that gives should not remember, and she that receives should never forget.’ Joanne was generous, unpretentious, and a beloved figure in her community. Joanne’s family was the center of her world. She is survived by siblings Carl (Sharon) Cocciolone and Patty (Rick) Alcorn, and nieces Kristen Cocciolone, Carly Thompson (Derek), Jessica Cocciolone, and Caleesi Kay Thompson, were the joys of her life. She will walk with them and offer them the same love she did here on Earth. She was also adored by many ‘adopted’ nieces and nephews, who sought out her endless guidance and friendship. Joanne also leaves behind many cousins and special friends of all ages. None will ever forget her, and her presence will be felt throughout each of their lives. An Italian proverb hangs on her kitchen wall: 'Chi mangia bene, vive bene’, which means 'Who eats well, lives well’. If you have been among the lucky to sit around Joanne’s table, you have indeed lived well. You may have have sat over an endless cup of fresh coffee, or trays of her incredible cookies, or been witness to her mastery in the kitchen as she crafted huge family meals. If you have been blessed with Joanne’s hospitality, you have known what it is to experience the very best of fellowship, love, and laughter. Many will associate with her the best, happiest times of their lives. Everone was welcomed at JoJos table. What more could someone hope to leave in this world? Private family visitation was held on Thursday in the Robert A. Billick Funeral Home. A Blessing service was held at 11:00 am followed by a 11:30 am Funeral Mass in the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, interment followed in Grandview Cemetery. Tomorrow is promised to no one. Joanne is, without doubt, in a better place than we are today. She is now joyfully embraced by those she loved and laughed with whilst here on Earth, [with a place already set at the table next to her recently departed best friend Chickey.] May she fly high, safe to Heaven.
