Irene V. Hlatky, 92, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at Lower Cape Fear Hospice on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. She was born in Brownfield, PA on April 1, 1927 to the late George and Anna Bednar Petey (Petty). She was the last of 10 siblings. Irene was a member of the former Holy Name Church and the Epiphany of our Lord Church in Monessen, PA. She was a member of Jednota Branch 88 for over 65 years. She was a life time member of the M.V.C.C. and a past President of the Monessen Democratic Women’s Club. Irene was employed by Shop ‘n Save and worked in the office for 20 years. She later worked for Giant Eagle until her retirement. Her hobbies were quilting and sewing samplers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John (Yank) Hlatky Jr., her brothers- Adam, John, George, Frank, Joseph, Steve, and Andrew, and her two sisters, Barbara (John) Kaminsky and Josephine (Chester) Galaski. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Annamarie and Russell Scuteri with whom she made her home for the last 12 years in Wilmington, NC, and by many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 pm in the Robert A. Billick Funeral Home Inc. Grand Blvd and Marion Ave Monessen A Blessing service will be held on Monday at 9:30 am in the funeral home followed by a 10 am Funeral Mass in the Epiphany of Our Lord R.C. Church 44 Penna. Blvd. with Fr. Michael Crookston Officiating, interment will follow in Holy Name Cemetery ,Should friends wish, donations in memory of Irene may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
