Helen Wawerchak

Helen Wawerchak 93, of Monessen, on Thursday January 26 2012 in Victoria House #2. Born in Monessen on April 8 1918 she was the daughter of the late Michael and Marie Karnis Smertka. She retired from Corning Glass Charleroi Plant. She was a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, the former Holy Name Church and its Christian Mothers, She was an active volunteer with the Senior Center, the Community Center and the CD of A. Besides her parents she was proceeded in death by her husband Peter Wawerchak, two brothers Michael and Joseph Smertka, and two sisters Mary Smertka and Anne Fedor. She is survived by a niece Nancy Akers of Willowick Ohio and a nephew Glen Smertka of Baltimore, a great niece Dawn Malta of Cleveland and a great nephew Mike and his wife Ksia Smertka of Poland and a great great niece and nephew Victoria and Joey Malta. Friends will be received on Monday January 30 from 10 am until 11:30 am in the Robert A. Billick Funeral Home Inc. Grand Blvd and Marion Ave Monessen (724) 684-3700 www.billicksfuneralhome.com. A blessing service will be held on Monday at 11:30 am in the Funeral Home followed by a 12 noon funeral Mass in the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church with Fr. David Nazimek officiating, entombment will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
