Anna Matola Vasil, 98, of Monessen, passed away Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018, in Providence Care Center. She was born April 6, 1919, daughter of the late John and Anna Matola. Anna was a lifelong resident of Monessen, a lifelong member of Saint John the Divine Russian Orthodox Church and the church choir. She also was a member of The Pittsburgh District Russian Orthodox Choir. Anna was also president of the Saint John’s Ladies Alter Guild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Anton “Tony” Vasil; a daughter, Ilona Vasil Carlucci; brothers, John and Frank Matola; and sisters, Sophie Matola Tyger, Mary Matola Hasek and Irene Matola Rodjom. Anna leaves to cherish her memory a son, Anthony J. “Tony” Vasil, of Sayreville, N.J. and Albany, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Laureen Vasil Sucek of Chippewa Township, Toni Vasil Scaletti of Somerset, N.J., Gregory J. Vasil of Milwaukee, Wis., John Carlucci of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Janice Carlucci of Duncansville, Pa.; and 11 great-grandchildren, Michael, Matthew and Danny Perry and Bill Charette of Somerset, N.J., J.J., Michael, Nicholas and Mia Carlucci of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Nikki Columbo, of Dallas, Texas, Kristin Sipes of Duncansville, Pa., and Trent Sipes of the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. Friends will received from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at St. John the Divine Russian Orthodox Church. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at St. John’s with the Very Rev.
