Andrew G Kovalik Jr. On January 23 2016, passed away peacefully in his home town of Monessen. He was 96 years old. Andy was the son of European immigrants Anna and Andrew Kovalik. In 1939 Andy joined the Civilian Conservation Corps to assist with family financial issues during the Depression Era. After a brief stint in the local steel mill he was drafted into the 13th Army Air Force in the Pacific from 1942 - 1945. In 1947 he married the lady of his life, Mildred Rusnak Kovalik and faithfully remained with her forever after. Andy's artistic talents along with the GI Bill enabled him to attend the Chicago Art Institute as well as the Pittsburgh School of Art. Upon graduation he pursued a lengthy renowned , and successful career in the commercial art business. Besides his wife Mildred he was proceeded in death by a sister Mary Suomela, and a daughter Camille Kovalik Buggy of Columbia SC. He is survived by a son Dale Andrew Kovalik of Salsbury MD. and a Granddaughter Heather Buggy Covey of Columbia SC. as well as numerous nieces and nephews throughout the Mon Valley, Pittsburgh Area and beyond. In lieu of flowers his son asks to honor Andy by taking a little time from their lives to help enlighten and brighten those close and in need. Friends will be received on Friday February 5 from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 pm in the Robert A. Billick Funeral Home Inc. Grand Blvd and Marion Ave Monessen www.billicksfuneralhome.com. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 am in the funeral home with FR. Michael Crookston Officiating interment will follow in Holy Name Cemetery.
